GENEVA, Switzerland – Christie’s Auction will offer one of the largest, and quite arguably the highest-quality fancy vivid blue diamond to ever cross the auction block.
Named by its previous owner, the late Sir Philip Oppenheimer, the 14.62-carat, rectangular-cut diamond is just one of the standout lots at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels event in Geneva next month.
The bold blue diamond comes with a pre-sale estimate of between $38 to $45 million (USD).
Oppenheimer diamonds are some of the highest quality diamonds in the world – the Oppenheimer family is the same family that today runs the famous De Beers corporation.
The auction will take place on May 18 in Geneva, Switzerland featuring over 280 lot of high-end jewelry from around the world.
Experts say the diamond ring most likely will break any previous world record for a fancy vivid blue diamond at auction.
In 2015, a highly rare and flawless ‘Blue Moon Diamond’ sold for $48.4 million (USD) when Sotheby’s sold the highly priced gem in the same city of Geneva.
